OUR HISTORY Fire Mountain School was founded in 1983 to provide individually-tailored early childhood education for children in the Cannon Beach-Nehalem Valley area of the North Oregon Coast. Parents built the school building themselves.
We are a non-profit school. Fire Mountain School is accepting applications for the Upper Class (grades 2nd, 3rd and 4th), and maintaining a waiting list for the Young Class ( ages 3+ thru 1st grade). For information contact us at firemountainschool@gmail.com |
philosophy |
Fire Mountain School has three central goals for children:
That our children develop a strong and positive sense of themselves That they come to see learning as an ongoing, joyful, and self-initiated quest That they come to know themselves as interactive participants in the wider natural, social, and practical world |
curriculum |
The curriculum focuses on Place Based, interdisciplinary studies. This approach creates a bridge between disciplines so that students can understand the relationships and connections that exist in real life. Grades and testing are not employed as measures of performance.

Method |
Using a hands-on approach, we seek to spark initiative, an inner sense of achievement and lasting self-confidence, challenging each child according to his or her abilities, interests, and stage of social development. We aim to help facilitate a child's growth in all areas -- social, emotional, intellectual, creative, spiritual, and physical.
