Riley Hawksford
Riley grew up in Cannon Beach and brings a breadth of life experiences to FMS. Through her work at farmer's markets and coffee shops she has been immersed in our coastal community. Riley has worked as an Au Pair in Italy, coaches Soccer each Fall and leads a Rope Skipping club in Seaside. She enjoys being a coach and mentor. Riley brings a warm, welcoming presence, creative ideas and positive energy to our school. We are grateful to have her leading our Pre-K/Kindergarten class. |
Kristin McLaughlin
Kristin grew up on climbing trees on the Oregon Coast. She attended PSU where she studied Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development and went on to teach both Kindergarten and 4th grade After School Classes for Chapman Elementary School (by way of Friendly House) in NW Portland. She has been a nanny, tutor & mentor for children ages 3-14. Her wide-ranging aspirations eventually led her to NYC where she worked in TV & Film production. Her love of nature manifested in the opening of her own plant shop in the city, where she led workshops and taught people how to keep their houseplants alive. That love of nature is what eventually led to her returning back home to Oregon in 2020 where began her work at FMS. First as a teachers assistant, then advancing to Eagles Teacher and now in an administrative role as our School Manager. Fire Mountain runs in her blood; her grandparents were some of the founding members! |
Katie Voelke
Katie was raised in a home under oak trees where she spent many hours collecting bugs, making mud pies with her sister, and camping and hiking with her parents in the summers. She is sure that this life-long exposure to the natural world is what led her on a path to study biology in school. Katie settled on Oregon’s north coast with her husband Scott in 2003 and spent time doing field work with the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife before she finally found her calling: working in land conservation with NCLC. In 2008 she took the helm as Executive Director. Although her job at NCLC keeps her very busy, her passion for Place Based Education and her commitment for her boys to experience Fire Mountain has brought Katie's talents here. We are fortunate to have Katie as our Board Governance Director, bringing long lasting process and foundation to our community. |
